It’s always surprising and interesting to hear that your favorite stars were raised in a certain way, be it a particular place, or even religion. Well, just in case you didn’t know before reading this, here is a list of 10 celebrities you had no idea were mormon:
Katherine Heigl
Katherine Heigl was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since the age of seven. She isn’t as active in the church as she had been during her childhood, but she still falls back on Mormon values in aspects of her personal life.
Jon Heder
Jon Heder graduated from Brigham Young University, and is also member of the LDS Church. He spent two years serving an LDS mission in Japan, which he claims gave his life a lot of meaning, and allowed him to contribute to society.
Mireille Enos
Mireille Enos was raised in a Mormon home. While it has been claimed that Enos does not actively practice the religion, she still states: “I’m so grateful to have been given this idea of being part of a larger context. I think whatever your endeavors are, it helps to feel you’re not alone in the universe.”
Julianne Hough
Julianne Hough was raised in a Mormon household, and to this day, supposedly still identifies as a Mormon, although she doesn’t follow the religion’s not-so lenient rules regarding making personal choices, which is of course, her choice.
Donny Osmond
Songwriter Donny Osmond was raised in a Mormon household and he still practices the religion today. Although he never served a mission for the LDS church, Osmond said that being in the public eye was his way to setting a good example, even in the church.
Gladys Knight
In 1997, Gladys Knight joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her choir was actually Mormon-themed, called “Saints Unified Voices”, which won a Grammy Award for their album, One Voice.
Brandon Flowers
Brandon Flowers, a musician from The Killers, is a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his interviews, you’ll often hear him promoting the religion, and his beliefs in the context of it.
DJ Kaskade
American DJ, Kaskade is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He (like Jon Heder) served as a missionary in Japan for the church in 1990. Though he’s not super religious now, he still holds onto Mormon values.
Jack Dempsey
In 1903, professional boxer, Jack Dempsey, was baptized in the Mormon church. He once wrote, “I’m proud to be a Mormon. And ashamed to be the Jack Mormon that I am,” condemning himself for not religiously following Mormon principles.
Ryan Gosling
Heartthrob Ryan Gosling was raised by Mormon parents, but regardless of his upbringing, he has said he does not really identify with the religion, or any religion at all, actually. There seem to be quite a few people like this, too.
